1983年バークリー音大を首席で卒業。同年米CBSより全世界デビュー。
以来、ゲイリー・バートン、チック・コリア、ブランフォード・マルサリスなど、トッププレイヤーとの共演や、自身のビッグ・バンド「No Name Horses」を率いてのツアーなど、ジャズの最前線で活躍。2003年グラミー賞ノミネート。ニューヨークフィル、NDRエルプフィルハーモニー等、国内外の主要オーケストラとも共演を重ねる。
2021年の還暦の節目には、「OZONE６０」プロジェクトを全国47都道府県で催行。
2023年シーズンは、ハリウッド・ボウルへの出演や、世界最高峰のビッグ・バンドのひとつ「WDRビッグバンド」との共演や、世界的ベース奏者アヴィシャイ・コーエンとの世界ツアーなど、今後も海外での躍進が続く。
近年は、「From OZONE till Dawn」と題した若手音楽家のプロジェクトにも取り組み、2024年には自身の最新トリオ‘小曽根真TRiNFiNiTY’を結成。平成30年度紫綬褒章受章。
Artist Profile
Graduated at the top of his class from the Berklee College of Music in 1983. That same year, he made his global debut with CBS.
Since then, he has been active at the forefront of jazz, performing with top musicians such as Gary Burton, Chick Corea, and Branford Marsalis, as well as touring with his own big band, “No Name Horses.” He was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2003. He has also performed with major orchestras both in Japan and abroad, including the New York Philharmonic and the NDR Elbphilharmonie.
In 2021, to mark his 60th birthday, he launched the “OZONE 60” project, performing in all 47 prefectures of Japan.
For the 2023 season, his international success continues with appearances at the Hollywood Bowl, a collaboration with the WDR Big Band—one of the world’s premier big bands—and a world tour with the renowned bassist Avishai Cohen.
In recent years, he has also been involved in a project for young musicians titled “From OZONE till Dawn,” and in 2024, he formed his latest trio, “Makoto Ozone TRiNFiNiTY.” He was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 2018.

世界を舞台に活躍を続けるピアニストの小曽根真が、ユニバーサル ミュージックの配給協力のもと、新たなジャズ・レーベル「Mo-Zone」を発足。その記念すべき第一弾作品となるのは、小曽根のデビュー40周年を迎えた2023年に結成したトリオ“TRiNFiNiTY (トリンフィニティ)”のセカンド・アルバム。
小曽根と俳優の神野三鈴が主宰する次世代を担う若手音楽家のプロジェクト「From OZONE till Dawn」に所属するベースの小川晋平とドラムのきたいくにとを擁したトリオで、2024年1月にファースト・アルバム『TRiNFiNiTY』をリリース。以来、国内外で積極的に公演を重ねてきました。
2025年春のヨーロッパ・ツアー終了後に、ドイツ・ルートヴィヒスブルクのバウアー・スタジオにてレコーディング。小曽根にとって同スタジオは、80年代にゲイリー・バートンのECM作品(『Real Life Hits』、『Whiz Kids』)の録音で訪れた思い出の場所です。
本作は、昨今の平和を揺るがす世界情勢に心を動かされた小曽根が、ひとりの人間として、音楽を通じて平和を強く願ったナンバーも含むメッセージ性の高い作品。4曲では親交の深いポーランドを代表するシンガー、アナ・マリア・ヨペックが参加(小曽根作品への参加は15年ぶり)し、圧巻の歌声を披露しています。
アルバム・ジャケットの写真は、俳優/映画監督の斎藤工と映像ディレクターの小川弾が撮影を担当。
Information
Pianist Makoto Ozone, who continues to perform on the world stage, has launched a new jazz label, “Mo-Zone,” with distribution support from Universal Music Japan. The label’s landmark debut release is the second album by “TRiNFiNiTY,” a trio formed in 2023 to mark the 40th anniversary of Ozone’s debut.
The trio features bassist Shimpei Ogawa and drummer Kunito Kitai, both members of “From OZONE till Dawn”—a project led by Ozone and actress Misuzu Kanno that nurtures the next generation of young musicians. They released their debut album, *TRiNFiNiTY*, in January 2024 and have since been actively performing both domestically and internationally.
Recorded at Bauer Studios in Ludwigsburg, Germany, following their European tour in the spring of 2025. For Ozone, this studio holds special memories as the place where he recorded Gary Burton’s ECM albums (*Real Life Hits* and *Whiz Kids*) in the 1980s.
Moved by recent global events that threaten world peace, this album is a deeply meaningful work in which Ozone, as an individual, expresses his strong desire for peace through music. On four tracks, Anna Maria Jopek—a leading Polish singer with whom Ozone shares a close friendship (marking her first appearance on a Ozone's album in 15 years)—joins the recording, showcasing her breathtaking vocals.
