1969年、チャーボーこと柴田和志（vo）と元ダイナマイツの山口冨士夫（g）を中心に京都で結成。ローリング・ストーンズ風のロックンロールで評判を呼ぶが、唯一のアルバム『ライヴ』を残して73年に解散。山口はソロ活動のあと、加部正義とリゾートを組むが、間もなく解散。80年代中頃に村八分時代の仲間、青木真一らとティアドロップスを結成して数枚の作品を発表。90年代は再びソロに戻り、シーナ&ザ・ロケッツの作品などに客演している。

Formed in Kyoto in 1969, centered around Kazushi Shibata (vocals), also known as Charbo, and Fujio Yamaguchi (guitar), formerly of The Dynamites. They gained popularity with their Rolling Stones-esque rock and roll, but disbanded in 1973 after releasing only one album, "Live." After a solo career, Yamaguchi formed Resort with Masayoshi Kabe, but it soon disbanded. In the mid-1980s, he formed Teardrops with Shinichi Aoki and other former bandmates from his Murahachibu days, releasing several albums. In the 1990s, he returned to a solo career, making guest appearances on albums by Sheena & The Rockets and others.

1973年5月5日、京都大学西部講堂で告知はほとんどされずに行われたというフリーライブを収録した村八分唯一のオリジナル・アルバム。今回のリイシューでは、中村宗一郎（Peace Music）が最新リマスタリングを施し、8Pブックレット付き、2枚組カラーヴァイナルにて発売。初盤の発売は1973年7月3日、ライブ当日から僅か２ヶ月というスピードでリリースされるも、冨士夫はこの日のライブを最後に脱退を表明しており、冨士夫以外のメンバーは全員渡米し実質解散となったため最後のライブとなった。浅田晢の脱退によりベースだった加藤義明がギターにコンバート、新たにミカゲエーイチをベースに迎えており、このメンバーでの演奏が聴ける唯一の音源であり音楽史に残る名作アルバム。
Information
Murahachibu’s only original live album, this landmark release captures a free concert held on May 5, 1973, at Kyoto University’s Seibu Kodo, reportedly staged with little to no advance publicity. For this second reissue, the original recordings have once again been newly remastered by Soichiro Nakamura (Peace Music) and will be released as a two-LP set on colored vinyl, complete with an 8-page booklet.
The original album was released on July 3, 1973, just two months after the concert. However, the performance would ultimately become Murahachibu’s final live appearance. Fujio Yamaguchi had already decided to leave the band and announced his departure following this concert, while all of the other members subsequently left for the United States, effectively bringing the group to an end.
The lineup featured on this recording was also unique. Following the departure of Tetsu Asada, Yoshiaki Kato, who had been playing bass, switched to guitar, while Eiichi Mikage joined the band on bass. This album is the only recording that captures Murahachibu performing with this lineup, making it a historically significant document of one of the most legendary bands in Japanese rock.
Recorded at a pivotal moment just before the band’s dissolution, the album captures Murahachibu’s raw and uncompromising sound at the end of their brief but influential career. It remains a landmark album in Japanese rock history and an essential document of the band’s final days.
