1940年東京生まれ。佐藤允彦、大野雄二とともに“慶応の三羽烏”と呼ばれ頭角を現し、大学在学中にプロ入り。コルゲンの愛称で親しまれ、ジャズはもちろん、歌謡曲やポップス、またテレビやアニメーションの音楽も手がけ、広く日本の音楽界に携わった。
1968年には日野皓正グループや石川晶グループに参加。杉本喜代志『カントリー・ドリーム』（1970年）、稲垣次郎とソウル・メディア『ファンキー・スタッフ』（1975年）、石川晶『バック・トゥ・リズム』（1975年）、エレクトロ・キイボード・オーケストラ『同』（1975年）、鈴木弘『キャット』（1976年）、弘田三枝子『マイ・ファニー・ヴァレンタイン』（1976年）『イン・マイ・フィーリング』（1977年）といった作品で重要な役割を果たしている。1979年以降は自身のフュージョン・グループ、ザ・プレイヤーズで活動。
ジャズ以外では、TVアニメ『海のトリトン』、映画『サーキットの狼』、バラエティ番組『今夜は最高！』の音楽を担当。
2001年に60歳で他界。

Born in Tokyo in 1940, he rose to prominence alongside Masahiko Sato and Yuji Ohno, being dubbed one of the " Triumvirate of Keio Univ." He turned professional while still a university student. Affectionately known by his nickname "Colgen," he made significant contributions to the Japanese music scene, not only in jazz but also in popular songs, pop music, and music for television and animation.
In 1968, he joined Terumasa Hino's group and Akira Ishikawa's group. He played a vital role in works such as Kiyoshi Sugimoto's "Country Dream" (1970), Jiro Inagaki and Soul Media's "Funky Stuff" (1975), Akira Ishikawa's "Back to Rhythm" (1975), Electro Keyboard Orchestra's same titled album (1975), Hiroshi Suzuki's "Cat" (1976), and Mieko Hirota's "My Funny Valentine" (1976) and "In My Feeling" (1977). After 1979, he was active with his own fusion group, The Players.
Outside of jazz, he composed music for the TV anime "Triton of the Sea," the film "The Circuit Wolf," and the variety show "Konya wa Saiko!"
He passed away in 2001 at the age of 60.

Composer and arranger of Hiroshi Suzuki's "Romance" and Jiro Inagaki's "Breeze," Hiromasa Suzuki is a musician who had worked extensively in the Japanese entertainment industry, not only in jazz, but also in pops, cinema, television, and animation music production. This album is a pre-fusion/crossover masterpiece produced by Jiro Inagaki and recorded with talented players such as Shuichi Murakami, Akira Okazawa, and Masayoshi Takanaka.
