鈴木弘は、1933年横浜生まれのジャズ・トロンボーン奏者。
多忠修とゲイ・スターズ、見砂直照と東京キューバン・ボーイズ、宮間利之とニューハード、原信夫とシャープス＆フラッツなどで活躍した後、1971年にアメリカに移住。一時帰国した際に、かつて在籍したジャズコンボ「フリーダム・ユニティ」のメンバー（石川晶、村岡建、鈴木宏昌、稲葉国光）とアルバム『キャット』を制作。2020年にラスベガスで86歳で亡くなった。
富樫雅彦は1940年東京生まれ。10代で天才ドラマーとして頭角を現し、貞夫・日野らと日本モダンジャズの黄金期を築く。また佐藤允彦らと前衛ジャズを牽引。1969年、鈴木弘との『ヴァリエイション』直後に不慮の事故で下半身不随となるが、独自のドラムキットを開発しパーカッショニストとして奇跡の復活。ドン・チェリーやスティーヴ・レイシーら海外の巨匠とも渡り合い、独自の空間的リズム論で世界を震撼させた孤高の天才。2007年没。

Hiroshi Suzuki (1933–2020)
A legendary jazz trombonist whose robust tone and fluid lines made him one of the most sought-after brass masters in Japan. Before moving to the United States in 1971, Suzuki anchored the nation’s premier big bands, including Toshiyuki Miyama & His New Herd and Nobuo Hara & Sharps & Flats. In 1975, during a temporary return from the US, he reunited with former Freedom Unity bandmates—including Akira Ishikawa and Hiromasa Suzuki—to record Cat, a jazz-funk masterpiece that has since achieved mythical status among global "Wajazz" collectors. Passing away in Las Vegas in 2020, Suzuki remains a revered icon of Japanese jazz at its absolute peak.
Masahiko Togashi (1940–2007)
A legendary prodigy drummer and a towering pioneer of Japanese free jazz. After co-leading the late-1960s vanguard with masterpieces like Variation, a tragic accident in 1969 left him paralyzed from the waist down. Undeterred, he miraculously returned to the scene by inventing a unique, hand-operated drum kit. Shifting his artistry toward a spiritual mastery of space and percussion, he earned global acclaim through collaborations with international titans like Don Cherry and Steve Lacy, remaining an iconic symbol of the "Wajazz" ethos.
