これまでに4曲のデジタルシングル、2枚のアナログレコード（ディスクユニオン）をリリースしている。 「桜田門外の変」、戦国時代の姫たち、 孔子の『論語』など、 かつて歴史学者の師のもとで学んだ日本文化の奥行きと、 現代的な感覚を行き来する表現で独自の音楽世界をクリエイト。
軽やかで踊れるシティポップは、ティーンエイジャーという等身大の視点だからこそ生まれた新しいかたちの「フィロソフィーポップ」となっている。

Japanese history, philosophy, classical literature, and traditional performing arts — SAKUra is a "singer-song-girl" who reimagines the words, events, and untold stories of the past through pop music.She made her debut in 2021 at the age of 10.
Since then, she has released four digital singles and two vinyl records. Drawing from her passion for historical themes such as princesses of Japan’s Sengoku (Warring States) period and the Analects of Confucius, SAKUra creates a unique musical world that moves fluidly between the depth of traditional Japanese culture and a modern sensibility. Her light, danceable city pop has evolved into a new form of “philosophy pop” — music shaped through the perspective of a teenager.
As part of Generation Alpha, SAKUra’s distinctive style — learning from classical thought and transforming those ideas into city pop — is truly one of a kind, attracting growing attention from cultural audiences both in Japan and internationally.
Her music is also deeply informed by her everyday connection to Japanese spiritual and cultural traditions. She studies Kyogen, a traditional form of Japanese classical comic theatre, regularly visits shrines, and collects goshuin (traditional temple and shrine stamps), experiences that naturally find their way into her artistic expression.
All of her works are composed and arranged by legendary city pop composer and arranger Etsuko Yamakawa, internationally acclaimed as a member of the influential pop duo Tohoku Shinkansen.

表題曲「What 師 Said」は、SAKUraが敬愛する孔子の『論語』をテーマに、現代的な感性とグルーヴで描き出した意欲作。α世代が古典から学び、その思想をシティポップへと昇華するユニークなスタイルは、国内外のカルチャーシーンからも注目を集めている。
作曲・編曲・プロデュースは、日本のシティポップ／ニュー・ミュージックシーンを長年牽引してきた山川恵津子が担当。常に進化を続ける“今”の感覚を詰め込んだサウンドは、まさに山川恵津子の真骨頂とも言えるネオシティポップの世界観を生み出している。
さらにカップリングには、“新世代渋谷系”とも称される注目のアーティスト・アマイワナを迎え、1983年に発売された早見優の名曲「Stardust Night」を瑞々しいデュエットカバーとして収録。作曲は山川恵津子、そして今回のカバーでは山川自身が新たに編曲を手掛け、時代を超えて愛されるシティポップの輝きを現代に蘇らせた。

The highly anticipated third 7-inch EP from 15-year-old city pop singer SAKUra.
The title track, “What Shi Said,” is an ambitious work inspired by the Analects of Confucius, whom SAKUra deeply admires, reimagined through a modern sensibility and groove-driven sound. Her unique style — learning from classical philosophy as a member of Generation Alpha and transforming those ideas into city pop — has been attracting attention from cultural scenes both in Japan and abroad.
Composed, arranged, and produced by legendary musician Etsuko Yamakawa, a pioneering force who has led Japan’s city pop and new music scene for decades, the track presents a truly distinctive neo-city pop soundscape. Filled with an ever-evolving sense of “now,” the music stands as a perfect showcase of Yamakawa’s enduring artistry.
The EP also features a fresh duet cover of Yu Hayami’s 1983 classic “Stardust Night,” alongside acclaimed rising artist Amaiwana, often described as part of the “new generation Shibuya-kei” movement. Originally composed by Etsuko Yamakawa, this new version is newly arranged by Yamakawa herself, reviving the timeless sparkle of city pop for a contemporary audience.
