Drawing inspiration from the pop music of the 1960s and ’70s, cambelle’s sound moves freely across soft rock, neo-acoustic, AOR, bossa nova, jazz, and new age. Blending the legacy of pop visionaries such as Todd Rundgren, Brian Wilson, and Burt Bacharach with the sensibilities of contemporary indie artists like Clairo and Men I Trust, the band creates music where nostalgia and modernity coexist. Their sound is defined by delicate melodies, warm vocal harmonies, and richly textured arrangements, reflecting a deep appreciation for pop music from across generations and borders.
In 2025, cambelle released their debut album, Magic Moments. cambelle is a three-piece indie pop band based in Tokyo, formed by Keichi Kumagai from Kumamoto, Ryo Ichihara from Tokyo, and Haruka Kawakami from Ishikawa. Drawing from their diverse backgrounds and musical influences, the trio has built its identity around a shared love of pop music.
Their debut album, Magic Moments, released in 2025, was created around the concept of “retro-modern.” Taking inspiration from the soft rock, pop, neo-acoustic, bossa nova, and retro soul sounds of the 1960s and ’70s, the album presents a musical world that feels equally rooted in the present. Its sound reflects both the lineage of pop craftsmen such as Todd Rundgren, Brian Wilson, and Burt Bacharach, and an affinity with contemporary artists including Clairo, Alice Phoebe Lou, and Men I Trust, resulting in music that feels nostalgic and refreshingly new at the same time.
